Barron Falls Rainforest Canopy Walk And Lookout

If you're looking for free activities in Cairns, the breathtaking Barron Falls rainforest canopy walk and lookout is worth exploring!

Located in the Barron Gorge National Park, 25 km northwest of Cairns in north Queensland, this stunning 125 m / 410 ft tall waterfall is a must-do in Cairns, and it's free!

The Barron River, which winds 60 km across the Atherton Tableland through one of the highest rainforest belts in the country, dominates Barron Gorge park. Thus, during the wetter months, floodwaters tend to create a spectacular view at Barron Gorge Falls!

There is so much to explore at the Barron Falls train station & lookout! The Barron Falls lookout is one of the best places to see the falls!

The Barron Falls lookout walk is a rainforest canopy trail that zig-zags through old trees offering lots to enjoy for kids and adults. It's an easy-graded 1.2km return walk that can take up to 40 mins.

This trail ends at the Barron Falls train station offering a few different viewpoints of the waterfall.

From there, you can take a unique trip on the Kuranda Scenic Railway that will bring you over 37 bridges and through 15 handmade tunnels forged by Queensland's early pioneers over 125 years ago.

And if you're ready for a real family adventure, you can reach the falls with Barron Falls Skyrail, gliding through the rainforest canopy on a cableway. 

There are a few stops along the way at different rainforest stations, so the kids can learn about the local flora and fauna and the importance of preserving our natural environment.
