3-Day Milford Sound Tour via Walter Peak from Queenstown

Set off on a three-day small-group Milford Sound adventure from Queenstown. Your journey begins with a cruise across Lake Wakatipu aboard the historic TSS Earnslaw heading towards Walter Peak, where a buffet BBQ lunch and farm show await. From here, you will travel in a premium van through Von Valley and high-country stations, stopping at breathtaking viewpoints before arriving at your lakefront four-star hotel in Te Anau for the night.

Day two starts with a scenic drive to Milford Sound, where you'll board the Milford Haven for a two-hour morning cruise, enjoying waterfalls, cliffs, and wildlife. The afternoon includes up to seven nature stops and short walks, to take in Fiordland’s beauty before returning to Te Anau for another relaxing evening. On your final day, you will journey through backcountry roads back to Walter Peak, where a snack platter and time to wander the historic homestead await. Your trip concludes with a scenic return cruise on the Earnslaw back to Queenstown. With accommodation, breakfasts, and all transfers included, this three-day experience is the perfect way to explore Fiordland in comfort and style.

Itinerary

• Day 1
• 11.30am - Departure from RealNZ Visitor Centre on Earnslaw steamship cruise from Queenstown to Walter Peak
• 12.15pm - Buffet BBQ lunch and show at the stunning Walter Peak
• 1.15pm - Board a premium van and travel through two working high country stations, Von Valley and through to Te Anau. Several incredible scenic stops are included with varying landscapes
• 5pm - Checked into accommodation in Te Anau
• Day 2
• 7.30am - Pick up from accommodation and driving to Milford Sound with a couple of scenic stops and bathroom breaks
• 10.30am - Board the 'Milford Haven' for a quieter two-hour morning cruise with fewer tourists present
• 12.30pm - Up to 7 scenic nature stops, nature walk and bathroom breaks
• 4.30pm - Drop off at accommodation and explore and enjoy the surrounds of Te Anau
• Day 3
• 10am - Pick up from accommodation (check out) and departure for Walter Peak through the backcountry road with a few special scenic stops
• 12.45pm - Arrive at Walter Peak, snack platter provided and time to explore the Walter Peak homestead
• 1.45pm - Board Earnslaw and depart for Queenstown
• 2.30pm - Arrive back in Queenstown
