Since the 1950s, the tranquil tropical waters of Darwin's Doctors Gully have hosted a magical natural phenomenon during high tide, enchanting visitors of all ages. Since its founding in 1981, Aquascene has invited over 70,000 visitors annually to witness this wonder firsthand, earning widespread acclaim as a joyful, family-friendly destination.

Doctors Gully also carries a rich history as a World War II base for the Royal Australian Air Force, home to vital operations supporting the legendary Catalina flying boats. These planes played a crucial role in the war effort, flying daring missions just meters above the water. At Aquascene, families can enjoy a unique blend of vibrant marine life and historical intrigue, creating unforgettable memories where nature and history meet.

Duration

  • We feed the fish on high tide, check out website for times, we recommend an hour at the venues with the fish and to look around. Tides can extend 2 to 3 hours

  • Close to the hotels of the Darwin CBD, walk down the Esplanade along the path to the Precinct, or catch the Big Red Bus to the Mitchell Street stop and stroll down the hill, or take the Peels Well historic Rainforest Walk on the way.

What To Bring

  • We recommend a hat and sunscreen, and footwear that is easy to remove should you wish to wade in the water, ankle deep and feed the fish
  • If no bookings are available on your chosen day on the calendar, we are closed due to low tide

  • All children and infants must be accompanied by an adult ticket holder.
  • Change your booking up to 24 hours before the start time of your experience
  • Changes are not permitted within 24 hours of your experience
  • Late arrivals or no shows may result in you forfeiting your experience

  • All children and infants must be accompanied by an adult ticket holder
  • To ensure the safety of visitors and staff, we have a strict no swimming policy due to the year-round presence of marine stingers in NT waters
  • When hand feeding the fish, guests are required to be no more than ankle-deep in the water
  • Parents are required to closely supervise children at all times
  • To protect our fish and visitors, no pets are allowed in Aquascene

  • Late arrivals or no shows may result in you forfeiting your experience
